Bring back the runners’ hi
I’ve been running all my life.
I’ve run on all continents.
And as it turns out I’ve been part of three “waves of running”.
So it won’t come as a surprise that I’m a big fan of running and a big fan of runners. And I surf every wave of running: the first primitive wave where you’d be called names, the second one, joining many big running events and marathons and the current third one, driven by social media running and concept runs. And I like every next wave better than the one before: more people running, more ways to run, more gear and more events.
I like everything new, accept for one thing: runners have stopped greeting each other. They don’t wave to each other anymore. The first wave of running were a tight bunch of die hards and they were few. They connected to each other, not at big events and not through social media, but on the street through a simple “hi” or a nod of the head.
I know society has changed and I feel a little melancholic for bringing this up: but I miss the runners greeting!
So I would like to bring the the “runners’ hi” back into fashion. I’m certain you would enjoy being greeted as well, so spread the love and pay it forward: when you go out for a run, say hi (or wave or nod your head) to the runners you see. Let’s make running even a bit more fun for everyone.
Bring back the #runnershi
Ps: of course it’s nice to greet the people bringing the mail, picking up the garbage and the ones giving you way as well!
